Educational and Youth Programs

The Sons of the American Revolution was started shortly after the 1876 Centennial by a group of men who were descendants of patriots involved in the American Revolution and who wanted to salute those men and women who pledged their lives, fortunes, and sacred honor to the ideal of American Independence.  These men desired to keep their ancestors’ stories of patriotism live in the belief that it would continue to inspire future generations.  Their efforts led to the formation of our organization with the goals to foster Patriotism, perpetuate American Heritage, and expand the historical records of the American Revolution.

In keeping with those goals, The SAR sponsors educational and youth awards programs, including poster, brochure, essay and oration contests for the full range of students, based on historical and patriotic themes. Winners receive cash prizes and awards.
